“New Year, New You”- Stop it!

I was chatting with a pal yesterday, after a lovely walk in totally dazzling and rather rare, January sunshine.

Dogs happily snoring in the beds, as only pointers can!

My friend jokingly mentioned her supremely excellent ability to procrastinate, and wondered if, "New Year, New You" could be the answer?

My answer…

"I like you. It would be a shame if you got rid of all of that. You're great as you are."

We might find bits of ourselves irritating, boring, exasperating and to be perfectly frank, utterly confusing as to why we keep doing them? The more we look for the proof of why we are so good at...insert your "bad" habit of choice here.....the more evidence, our, oh so sodding brilliant brains, will find.

And you hear the

 "There, told you so."

Earworm, merrily echoing between your ears!

If you have a habit that's driving slightly daft, or teeth and butt clenchingly insane, please don't tell your self that it's impossible to change. Because the belief that it's impossible to change, makes it...impossible to change.

Firstly, decide if you want to change said habit? (which is merely a repetition of a behaviour- and we have good and bad ones)

Really?

Do you really want to change?

Then you get to rewrite that story. Seriously you can.

Please don't exhaust yourself trying to do a total overhaul and create a 100% brand new sparkly you for the New Year, just work on the firm belief that you will change this one part of your behaviour.

The aim/goal/dream has to be stronger than the limp old story you're telling yourself about your ability - in the case of a procrastinating Goddess, not to get shit done!

In the time wasted, humming and haaing about whether to change, or wondering why we are procrastinating, we could easily have done the blinking 'thing' we're trying to avoid, by doing extra housework, clearing your desk, polishing the streaky windows, or journaling on why we're not doing the thing!!

Our time is our #1 Asset

Seriously.

It's precious.

You and your life are precious.

So please, for the love of God, no more New Year's memes of "New Year, New You"

And lots more of I am chuffing amazing.

Right here.

Right now.

I flipping well love me.

AND

There are a few areas I'd like to brush up on.

AND I CAN DO BOTH!

My wish for you is that 2023 is all that you wish for.

Love. Marianne
