Do you allow Fear to shut you down?
“Fear doesn’t shut you down; it wakes you up”
― Veronica Roth
It certainly sodding well woke me up the other night!
It wasn't a hot flush (or 'flash' as my American sisters call it) but it was a bit of a good old-fashioned panic!
A heart thumping, clammy handed, freak out, that comes from waking from deep sleep into mental chaos!
I'm in the process of jumping through many hoops, truth be told, I now have the title of 'hoop jumping aficionado badass'.
Each obstacle is now cheerfully reframed as a stepping stone.
During the day, that's fine. I'm on board.
But the other night, Eric was on sodding overdrive!
"We are going to die
You're a fu*king idiot.
Why are we leaving our safe and comfortable and all our friends, and everyone in the world, and moving somewhere new, where anything could happen. Anything. ANY THING.
What kind of complete imbecile would do that?
What the hell is the matter with you?
Let's just stay here. Safe. Stuck. I like unfulfilled. It feeds me and my voice!"
As humans, we are wired to fear, fear.
It's basic, primitive wiring, there to originally protect us.
Now it tends to keep us stuck. Me, you and everyone else who's been waiting for that perfect moment to make a change.
The secret is...
THERE IS VERY RARELY, IF EVER, A PERFECT MOMENT!
What if the feeling of fear, is something to be embraced?
A recognition of growth?
The first step towards change for the better?
A life that will leave us happy and fulfilled.
You know me, I love me some "What ifs?!"
Another truth, that I frequently bang on about is, that the most common fear at our time of passing, is that we haven't done all the things we wanted to do.
That we did do what was expected of us.
We didn't live our lives fully and arrived at an,
"Oh crap, it's too late now!"
sinking feeling as we leave this mortal coil!
Try exploring these...with lots of gentle curiosity.
What do you fear in your future?
What do you fear now...which is really about your future too?
Are there things that you would regret not doing?
Are there things that you would regret doing?
So much of fear is tied up in regrets.
Regrets from the past, can be tidied up, learned from and put to bed.
Regrets for things not yet done can be reversed engineered and done.
Midlife, NOW is the perfect time to start doing this Midlife reset.
I know, I haven't time to waste worrying about wasting time and leaving my comfort zone.
Sorry Eric, we are moving.
'Uncomfortable' is the new kick ass way forwards!
Love.Marianne
