The secrets of a Devon reservoir
Where there is normally a vast expanse of inky black water, there was none.
Dry sandy shores, my shoes leaving deep imprints, and the always both surprising and familiar, prehistoric remains of hut circles.
Fernworthy reservoir, on the fringe of Dartmoor.
I used to walk my dogs there for years, when I lived nearby.
I was there last week.
Now I don't mean to be rude comparing your mind to a scene of drought and ancient ruins but here goes....😉
Imagine your mind to be a lovely full reservoir.
All that fluid goodness, ready to feed and nurture you and help you generally kick lots of ass in your life, feel good and smile!
There is a dam wall which keeps everything just ready for you to summon it and go...or leave it to go stagnant and unused.
Also, all the submerged and frequently forgotten "stuff"!
Submerged trees, ready to snag you, aka beliefs that really screw you up.
A bridge that spans the little stream: the reservoir's source. That wee bridge used to lead somewhere of great importance.
Now it's normally hidden, but amazingly, still a complete bridge.
Waiting to take you somewhere...
(I've just spent 30 mins looking for a beautiful photo I took of it on my old Hasselblad film camera 30 years ago.. and it must be packed in boxes. Sorry!)
The deep subterranean valley floor. Let's compare this to the really deep help beliefs that we hold.
Mostly unchallenged.
Some propel us forwards, and some are like living with the handbrake on.
What do you believe about Midlife?
And what do you just accept, unquestioned, about getting old?
What would you love to do?
What do you think you are capable of doing over the next few decades... God willing?
Are your answers from research and your thinking, or inherited from social conditioning and the inky depths of your family and their inherited beliefs too? It's all too easy to live like some poor little deep water creature who has lost the use of its eyes and just swims, feeling its way around things and has evolved, rather well, I must say, into being blind, because it lives where there is no light.
Because we live in a world of light.
We are surrounded by it.
When we wake up, and decide to Live the rest of our lives and not just accept the conditioning that become ingrained in our thinking, then my gorgeous friend, then we are on our way to living a life we love, finding freedom and my favourite, a life well lived. I don't want to be one of those whining minnies, who is on "If only" sodding autopilot!
It can seem daunting to break through an entire dam wall.
So find one thing you'd love to do, and imagine an autumn leaf floating over the water and finding a wee chink to pass through.
It might get caught up, but if you release more and more leaves of thought, oh I'm loving the Autumn metaphor, all those glorious reds and golds, it only takes one, to break through, one idea for you to decide on and your life can literally change.
You could dynamite the dam wall but quite frankly, that's unfriendly, dangerous and highly illegal!
Change comes from one simple decision.
I want to change!
What would you love to change?
What are you no willing to tolerate any longer?
Start here.
Play with this.
You have way more power than you realise.
Spend some time cogitating on this.
I would love to know what you come up with...leave a message and let me know.
Love.Marianne
